The end of a short but impactful era. Today Sam and Charmaine aka The Springbok Girls checked out of Public Hall for the last time after having used the space to store heaps clothes donations for our homeless friends. During lockdown this dynamic duo has been on the streets most nights as part of the UOS team clothing hundreds of homeless friends and giving them a sense of self worth and dignity. A massive thank you to my very close friend Daniel Korski, Mel Bayeh and Huckletree for providing us a temporary home. I think we call all agree the Charmaine and Sam created something very special which they can take incredible pride in. Love and respect from the UOS family.
Today Fred and Cormac were out on cargo bikes delivering left over stock from the clothes hub going all over town. They spent 8 hours in the saddle and will do another run tomorrow. The rest of the stock has been passed on to another organisation running shower facilities for our homeless friends.
Several of you have asked whether there will be an event to get all the skywalkers together. Social distancing clearly makes this very difficult right now. Today Amrit, Brian and I discussed to possibility of doing a picnic either end of July or in August. More to come on that. The lovely thing is that there is a real desire from you to meet with those who you only know by name on the myriad of whatsapp groups we have been running.
Yesterday one of our donors left this wonderful message on our GoFundMe campaign:
I wish charities like these wouldn’t be necessary. But the homeless can’t stay home like I do, and I can’t figure a better way to spend part of my furlough money. Solidarity to Under One Sky and good luck to all of you out there!
Tomorrow we will share a document that fully outlines how operations will run after Sunday 5 July.
