|TOTAL SERVED TO DATE||34,225|
Since our last food distribution event on 5 July we have served another 1,900 homeless friends bringing our total to 34,225. If we can keep the service up in the last two weeks of this initiative we will end up on 36,000. That would mean UOS since its inception in 2012 has served homeless friends 40,000 times.
To put things into perspective. It took us 8 years to reach 4,000 and only another 4 months to make that 40,000. A rough calculation shows we as a group have done 11,000 hours of outreach in 4 months. Let’s pull together the next 2 weeks to make sure we finish off what we started with maximum time for our friends out there.
We have entered the last week of our charity auction to help fund future UOS activities. The total bids currently stand at £5710 but the reserve prices on several items have not been reached yet. It would be really great if you could share the auction with friends, family and colleagues by email and social.
The auction will end with a closing party on 24th July including performances and interviews. Its a Facebook event and you can attend here.
It is superb to see how the teams are being resourceful in still going above and beyond despite our reduced service in July. Sthefanie spent a few extra hours on Saturday getting much needed clothing for a friend. In the last two weeks we have managed to crowdsource requests for friends. A bicycle for Dritan so he can start doing deliveries to earn an income and rebuild from there. A kindle and Amazon vouchers for our bookworm friend Frank who reads everything but romance novels.
Here is to the last 2 weeks. 6 evening walks and 6 breakfast runs to go, so make sure to book in for the last chapter of this journey.
