|7 June 2020 – DAY 67|
|TOTAL SERVED TO DATE||20,692|
Unfortunately in the last 2 days two of our volunteers’ bikes have been stolen from the bike rack on Neal Street. Arch angel Amrit (rapper name Triple A) has once again come to the rescue and asked those of you who cycle to Punjab to either leave your bikes in the restaurant or chain them to the scaffolding outside on the side facing the food part not the stock room. Hope those whose bikes got stolen have insurance.
On a practical note there has been a couple of questions/cases around medicine (both prescription and over the counter). Please don’t handout anything of that kind. We have no idea what allergies or medicines the homeless friend has/takes so the best intentions could lead to an undesired outcome. If someone needs support picking it up then we can look at that on a case by case. We need to stick to the items provided in the supplies and if top ups are needed then only non-risky items.
Over the weeks we have been working on the streets we have had some nice “conversions” to UOS. I would attribute it to the spirit that everyone works with…its contagious. Asher who did the podcast about UOS decided to join. Jessica who was in touch early days about doing a piece in her role at the BBC has also became a skywalker last weekend. Anne got in touch to raise funds for us through her organisation “All Together” but following our work she decided to skywalk as well. “All Together” picked 3 non-profits to raise funds for; UOS, The Felix Project and Meals on Wheels. I love who Anne expresses what their logo symbolises:
The rainbow in our logo represents the symbol of unifying hope, the orange sphere is both round like the earth and warm like the community and its people
(see Anne and Stef showcase the logo below). And what could be more fitting a rainbow joining forces with the sky.
