19 April Event Update

The 2nd busiest night since we started with 302 rough sleepers served – 3524 served to date.

Last night we had a couple of difficult encounters reported by the Victoria team:

  • A distressed Italian lady who had lost her passport and papers. She hardly spoke a word of English. Sadly she didn’t want any of the help we offered including connecting her with StreetLink.
  • We met a lady who has cancer in her spine who is being forced out of the hostel place she was granted as she has to pay a daily service charge. Her benefits were stopped while she was in hospital.

Sadly stories like these are not rare on the streets at this time. Several are trapped due to the lockdown.

We have interest from a couple of media outlets who might come out with our teams to see the reality of the situation with their own eyes. In the meantime, Franc, our photographer is working with Kirat, who introduced us to The Punjab, on social media initiative working with the other outreach organisations on the streets at the moment. More to come shortly.
