The numbers at both Waterloo/London Bridge and Kings Cross seems to be rising. Yesterday The Waterloo/London Bridge team saw 100 homeless friends. Will keep monitoring to see if this continues to rise or stabilises at a new higher level.
Yesterday we got a really wonderful message from a homeless friend Paul who follows us on Facebook:
Everyone under the UOS umbrella has been truly amazing. You have been consistent, every night since this crisis started we have KNOWN we are getting fed. But it goes further than that, during the lockdown many of us would not even had a change of clothes if it was not for you guys. Everyone of you that I have met on the street has been unfailingly cheerful and a pleasure to meet but more than that we all know what a difficult task you have undertaken but you manage to make it look so easy. Love you all xxx.
Take a moment to digest those words… this is our core reason for existing. Respect to all involved.
Westminster Council runs a weekly Zoom call with the charitable organisations active during the lockdown. With the city opening up again and the destiny of those who have been housed in hotels until early July there is real pressure to come up with solutions. They are hoping to find locations where shelter and amenities can be provided (i.e. hubs) e.g. university halls of residence. If you have ideas for locations then please send them through and I will feed back to the council. It is key that the location/facility has a decent level of toilets or space to put up portable toilets.
Last night the Soho/Embankment team was a show of female power – all 10 of them. Not sure who took the picture but it is fricking awesome.
Couldn’t help thinking of this song when I saw it, way to go sisters!!!
