16 April Event Update
Before getting to the details of the event. In 2 weeks this group has grown to 150 volunteers. Most are new to Under One Sky. This was seen as a key risk for us but drafting people in quickly was the only way to make daily deliveries work. On behalf of everyone the way you have all gelled and delivered is beyond impressive. It really says a lot about each one of you and how lucky are we to have met you. The spirit of UOS is one of family, looking after each other and respecting each others differences. That is really being embraced…huge respect all round!
Both new and existing volunteers should check Gemma’s video – that is what adhering to social distancing looks like – well done team.
On that note please make sure you pace yourselves and have time for after-care to the extent needed.

Observations
- Worringly, the Waterloo team heard from homeless lodging in Travelodge Waterloo. If the person is not in their room when meals are served then the person won’t get fed. Team also met a guy who’d had a disagreement with staff at Travelodge tonight and was given 10 mins to pack up. He is now back on the street. Some said they’d prefer to be on streets given how they are treated in hotels.
- Good news – Embankment team met Robert again. We passed his details on a couple of days ago and he has now been offered a hotel room.
Special mentions
- Brian Whiting has been on the streets covering Embankment/Soho for each event since we started. He has managed to build up so many good relationships with the homeless in the area. And has been showing the ropes to several first-timers. Regardless how late it gets he takes any left overs and hands them out on the way home. I am pleased to say…Brian will now take a 2 day break.
