Today on the weekly Westminster council call a fact came up that is definitely worth sharing. Hot summer days are more dangerous to the lives of rough sleepers than the winters. The council mentioned that during a hot two week spell a few years ago there were more deaths than in the preceding 2 year period. Definitely something to keep in mind. The simple gift of a bottle of water can be a life saver.
Sarah M sent me the photo below from The Connection’s newsletter which states black on white that the hotel scheme will start ceasing from 3 July.
We will soon have enough donated artwork donated to open a gallery. Most people wish to give back, even when we have very little. We are experiencing almost every evening how empowering the combination of drawing skills and drawing tools is. Empowering for many reasons not least because it enables people to create and give. The drawing of elephants (below) was gifted to Jeff last night and these are his words:
He went from only wanting a tea initially, to accepting our offer of some food, then asking me for some tobacco, then I spotted he had ManUtd socks on so we spoke about Ukranian football teams, then taking his sock off to show me his broken big toe (he’ll be fine) After that he asked if he could call his family in Ukraine so that’s when TSG’s swung into action with a brand new phone, then off he hobbled to get his personal belongings which he had hidden somewhere in the park on Embankment and donated that picture. Lisa and I were thrilled, we are elephant conservationists so it really resonated with us. He doesn’t want to go to hospital but we got a lovely smile from him as we left, boy these walks, so uplifting!
